Les Bûcherons

This book seeks to present some Canadian History and French Canadian culture in the form of
songs, stories and dances. This collection of music with audio recording is what delivers a
part of the spirit and experience of Les Bucherons to children and adults all over
Canada.

These traditional and original songs are worthy of representing some of Canada’s great
culture and we are proud of our compilation and hope it bridges the generations and acts as
a link in the chain of oral tradition. These songs have stood the test of time and with the
help of many people, we have put this project together for the purpose of supplementing
social studies and French education as well as pure musical enjoyment

Les Bucherons have always been known for their audience participation through the wooden
spoons, the wooden dancing men, call and response songs, line dance and square dances. These
songs also serve as tools for introducing instruments like the singing saw and the rhythm
bones music with activities such as choreography and dance.

With this in mind, our book acts as a guide for students and staff to remember these songs
and activities so that they may be enjoyed and recreated over the years, for school
concerts, social settings and most importantly teaching the next generation about our
traditions and helping us understand better our country and the people who came before us.
Included in the book is a CD with the songs and another CD with just the instruments for the
purpose of singing along to for performing.
